Fortis is sincerely interested in the employee’s safety. It is our mission to provide safe equipment, adequate tools, ample training, and the necessary protective equipment.Fortis has a number of training and safety programs in place at this time and we will continue to add programs as our business expands.Because Fortis is an environmental consulting firm, our field personnel are entered into the following training and health monitoring programs immediately upon hire.
·40 Hour Hazardous Worker (HazWOPER) OSHA 1910.120 Training ·Annual 8 Hour OSHA 1910.120 Refreshers ·Medical Monitoring ·Random Drug Testing ·RCRA 40 CFR Parts 260-268 Training ·DOT Hazard Communication Training (49 CFR 172.700)
Internal training has been instrumental in our success. For instance, our recently developed OSHA Refreshers and HAZCom Training are conducted in-house and our tailored to be relevant to the work we do.Internal training is also provided on a variety of topics including waste determination, equipment operation, and sampling techniques. If required for installation of a particular product, our personnel will also receive instruction and certification from the manufacturer.
We work to instill a culture of safety within the Fortis family. This culture benefits Fortis by extending our retention time of employees, lowering our insurance rates, and lowering our equipment loss/replacement costs. The benefits of lowering our cost to do business are passed directly on to our clients.
Fortis is constantly looking for ways to continue to improve and ensure the safety of our employees and their workplaces. For example, Fortis recently requested a audit from the USF Safety Florida Consultation Program. This is an OSHA funded program, designed to assist small business with the development of safety programs. USF Safety Florida conducted an onsite audit of our facilities and existing safety programs. They were so impressed that Fortis recieved a Sunshine State Safety Recognition Award in December 2008.
Finally, Fortis' emergency modification rate (EMR) is a 0.93.This low EMR attests to our understanding of the importance safety and reliability has to the successful completion of our projects.
